Linen, the Fabric that will save your life

Have you ever noticed people in the dessert and humid climates wear a lot of linen, but do you know why?

Linen is a finely woven fabric made from the fibers of the flax plant.

It was the ancient Egyptians that started using linen in everyday life; it’s very light and loosely woven, which allows heat to escape from the body. It absorbs a lot of moisture and dries quickly, keeping you cool and dry. Linen can be stiff, but that can be considered a good thing, it’s not sticking to your body.

The secret to linen’s coolness lies in the construction of the flax fibers, which are hollow cylinders. For those reasons, linen is an incredibly light material. Linen fabric feels cool to the touch due to it being such a good conductor of heat, and despite its lightness, linen is one of the strongest natural fibers and has more than twice the strength of cotton.

Another advantage is that linen provides natural anti-bacterial properties and is UV resistant, making it ideal for summer clothing. Linen is rarely colored, as its tan, ivory, tan, and beige plus the luster of the material makes it one of the most naturally elegant and chic clothing materials.

Linen clothes are simple to care for, it’s machine washable and easy to remove stains from, and it dries quickly. Linen does wrinkle easily, but most people don’t mind and welcome the fresh breeze associated with this fabric.
