My hair is now back to waist length.
I have also purchased the Hollywood hair bar growth serum. I started applying it Monday, and from now only will apply it Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and so far, my fiance is not allergic. There have been so many great reviews on the product. Yall know I try to keep it all-natural when it comes to my hair, I read the ingredients, and everything seems on the up and up, and I am excited to see my results.
A quick synopsis of my hair journey to this point:
As a little girl, I had a lot of hair, but my mother took care of it and made sure that I was proud of my hair and brown skin.
When I was little, my mother went out of town, and my father’s sister took me to the salon to get my hair “done.” When my mother got home, my hair was relaxed; she was never told or consulted.
High school 2004-2007 – wanting to be like everybody else, I started curling my hair and wanting straight hair. I was using the curling iron just about every day.
College – December 22, 2010
I was sitting at my desk the day after my birthday; I was six hours away from home and did not know anyone who could do my hair. My hair was short and thin (for me, short was right above my bra strap).
Summer 2010 I didn’t do the big chop, I was standing in my bathroom and just started snipping, the demarcation point was getting to be too much to handle, so I cut it off. My hair reached my shoulders on the sides and in the back a little past my shoulders, the shortest my hair had ever been.
2012- 2018– working
I am an independent adjuster by trade, so I contract myself out to work major storms, which requires traveling, 11/12 hours days, 6-7 days a week. After working that long hair is the last thing on my mind, I also throw in working out 4 days a week, so my hair suffered a little bit.

My Hair Care Regime and Schedule.
The Sunday after I wash my hair, I do two-strand twists, and those same twists remain in my hair until it is time to wash again, 2 weeks later. I wash my hair every Friday, so I coat my hair with the moisturizer after washing and conditioning my hair. I use Camille Rose Almond Jai Twisting Butter; you can look here.
I keep my hair regime very simple. I do not wash my hair every week. I can’t spend 6-8 hours every Friday in the house, washing my hair. The less manipulation, the more your hair will grow.
Monday
Use hair growth oil (this was up until I saw my hair reach waist length, 2 months ago), massage hair for 30 minutes with massager
Spritz with moisturizer
Tuesday
Strengthening tea
Wednesday
Use hair growth oil, massage for 30 minutes with massager
Spritz with moisturizer
Thursday
Strengthening tea
Friday
Use hair growth oil, scalp massage for 30 minutes with scalp massager
Spritz with moisturizer
Friday Wash Day (2x a month)
Shampoo hair
Henna gloss or henna mask (4-6 hours, I run errands, edit photos, wrote blog posts) something productive for the time to go by)
Condition and detangle in shower
Use moisturizer for two strand twists
Let dry
Re-twist hair that following Sunday, those same twists stay in for 2 weeks.
If I see a twist not being great, lol I re-twist it.
If I see a fairy knot, I cut it off. (use cutting shears, do not using regular scissors, and do no use the shears to cut anything else other than your hair, they will become dull and won’t cut your hair properly)
Because I don’t wear my hair straight very often if I see a twist with wonky ends, I snip it, also known as dusting.
Caution: Remember that I do not take my hair out of the twists for 2 weeks. Keep in mind that you shed about 100 hairs a day, so multiple that by 14 and you get 1,400 hairs, and when you see your ball of hair, you may think its a lot, but it’s not.

Changes to My Hair Care Regime
My hair drastically changed when I started using an Ayurveda hair care regimen.
I came across Curly Proverbz and began binge watching her videos. We somewhat have the same hair texture; her hair grows out before it grown down as well.
My first henna gloss treatment was January 24, 2020, the results, amazing, the shine, and the softness. I began looking for ways to customize the gloss to my hair. That is when I discovered aloe vera powder. While henna is great for shine and strengthening, it can also dry your hair out. To combat that people, use other powders, oils, and conditioners, but when I added aloe vera powder, game changer!
Major Game Changing Ayurveda Ingredients and their Benefits
Bhringraj Powder (aka “King of Hair”)

What is it?
Herb
What are the benefits?
This is the first thing that is recommended in Ayurveda when someone is starting their journey because it combats hair fall and has medically been proven in some cases to be stronger than over the counter minoxidil.
- helps prevent hair loss
- stops premature greying
- affective against skin allergies
- helps control and get rid of dandruff
use with Brahmi powder.
Henna

What is it?
A plant, that Indian women have been using for centuries to dye, strengthen, color, and ultimate shine for their hair.
What are the benefits of using it?
Strengthens hair, covers, greys, it fills in missing parts of your hair NOTE: henna can actually loosen your curl pattern, if that is your goal then you can use it as it suits your needs. If you like your curl pattern as it is, when you use henna add amla powder, it will combat that.
NOTE: DO NOT go from not using henna straight to a henna and water mix. Because henna strengthens the hair it can make it so strong that it will become dry and break off, you could have a set-back. Start with a gloss so your hair can adjust and then deep condition to see what you need to tweak.
NOTE: DO not add boiling water to henna, your hair will have a bright orange tinge.
Caution: Use gloves when applying a henna mask or gloss, your hands will be orange. The first time I applied Henna, I did so without gloves, and it took about a month for my hands to go back to normal. Also, take off your wedding ring and band, they will change colors, or wear gloves.
Shakaikai

What is it?
Shikakai is a small shrub-like tree which grows in India. It’s pod-like fruit is collected, dried, and then ground into a fine powder.
What are benefits for using it?
It cleanses the scalp and helps combat and cure dandruff. It also promotes hair growth and strengthens the hair from its roots.
Is my hair healthier?
I can definitely tell that my hair is healthier.
The detangling process is much easier. It still takes some time because I detangle my hair in section, but it is seamless.
Thoughts and Takeaways
Part of my goal for this hair journey was to keep the ingredients I use in my hair are natural. Besides the Camille Rose, everything else that goes into my hair I make.
Many people say they don’t have the time or patience, but the health of my hair is important to me, so I make sure I make time. All the conditioners, shampoos, and cleansers I listed above are made Sundays, and it takes about an hour for all of them. If I run out during the 2 weeks before washing my hair, I make a small batch quickly.
Have you heard the saying watch some and watch it not grow? Be patient. STOP length checking every week, 2 weeks, it will drive you crazy. Be patient.
Any hair journey and the results are going to be different for every natural. The results will always be different, so please understand that what works for one natural might not work for you, you may have to tweak some things here and there, for your hair to flourish. Listen to your hair!

With glass and grace,
Mya- Karren
