Hair update September 6, 2019 (update is 3 months and 6 days out)
A quick synopsis of my hair journey to this point:
When I was little, my mother went out of town, and my father’s sister took me to get my hair “done” at the salon. When my mother got home, my hair was relaxed; she was never told or consulted.
High school 2004-2007 – wanting to be like everybody else I began curling my hair and wanting straight hair. I used the curling iron just about every day.
College – December 22, 2010
I was sitting at my desk the day after my birthday. I was six hours away from home and did not know anyone who could do my hair. My hair was short and thin (for me short was right above my bra strap).
Summer 2010
(college break) I didn’t do the big chop, I was standing in my bathroom and just started snipping, the demarcation point was getting to be too much to handle. My hair reached my shoulders on the sides and in the back a little past my shoulders, the shortest my hair had ever been.
2012- 2018
By trade, I am an independent adjuster, so I contract myself out to work major storms, which requires traveling, 11/12 hours days, 6-7 days a week. After working that long hair is the last thing on my mind, also throw in working out 4 days a week.
Update:
The question yall want answered, has my hair grown? It has not, but I have been able to maintain my length. My hair is much shiner, manageable, and healthier.
I started taking Msm and vitamin c on June 20 orally.
In addition to one serving I added half of the measurement cup to each application, morning and night. I Started taking two doses of msm July 17 2019, because I am Mya- Karren and I don’t read directions.
I did one onion hair rinse July 1, 2019. I added an essential oil (peppermint) and I could not get past the smell. My hair smelled like onions for 2 weeks. Even after I washed my hair, there were still remnants of the smell. That was the last time I did an onion rinse.
I started the Grow Aut oil July 1, 2019 and I did it 3 times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday.) I used my fingertips to massage the oil into my scalp.

July 31, 2019, I started using growth oil from Curly Proverbz. Her recipe is: coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil, peppermint oil, rosemary oil, henna, and fenugreek. I wash my hair on Fridays (every 2 weeks) so I put the oil on my entire head from root to tip and then put a plastic cap on for about 30 minutes and then wash my hair as usual.
August 12, I ordered my scalp massager from Vanity planet. I use it in conjunction with Curly Probverbz’s hair growth oil Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

When I am in the house my hair is wrapped up. When I am shooting my hair is out and then once the photo shoot is done my ends are tucked away.
While buns are my go to style, for this hair growth challenge two strand twists are helping me maintain length. I keep the twists in for 2 weeks and use the growth oil on my scalp.
August 23rd, I began researching deep conditioners. I landed on Curly Proverbz Youtube channel again and started using her deep conditioner banana mask. I used one banana, one avocado, 1 teaspoon of Amla powder, one 1 aloe leaf.
To date this is my 2nd time using the recipe and the softness and shine to my hair is amazing.
I plan to straighten my hair for my “annual straight birthday hair” and a needed trim. If my ends cannot holdout that long, I will trim them before then. I have not decided whether I am going to do my hair or if I will go to a professional. I’ve had one terrible encounter, so I taught myself how to flat iron my own hair. My hair does not come out bone straight, but since I have been natural I don’t too much care. It just needs to be straight enough to trim my ends, because once it gets frizzy lol ( and yall know what I mean) I leave it be.
Again, my wedding is May 24, 2020. My goal is waist length stretched/blow dried hair. I say blow dried because I don’t wear my hair straight very often. If I do straighten my hair, it’s solely to trim my ends, straight hair can get boring.
With class and grace,
Mya – Karren
